An Irregular Publication for a Dysfunctional Society

9/10/04 05:32 pm - charisma - It's September 10th- do you know where your EM is?

We're working on it. Due date has been changed to "Very Damn Soon in September."

EM is no longer accepting submissions for Issue one; that doesn't mean you can't send something in - it just means we'll be shelving it to take a look at when we're ready to put out the second issue. Because we're hard at work (or hardly working at) getting issue one all nice and ready to print, we won't be reading any incoming submission mail for the time being. The Internet won't eat it, we promise. It'll just hang out till we're ready to look it over.

Fixed Vlad-i-mir typo (sorry 'bout that!); updated Jason's last name; added middle initial to Kevin. If anyone else needs their name changed/updated/fixed/defaced - now's the time to let me know. Our byline list:

'Bruno'
Alexander the Poet
Jason Bradley
Alex-C
Austin Cushing
Laura Cushing
Lynda Hinkle
Vladimir Fefer
Glenn Charles
'Mattloaf'
Natasha Mc Cullagh
Rachel Guthrie
Patrick McDermeit
Leah Meredith
Kara Millman
Will Posner
Matt Rhodes
Kevin L. Schwartz
Rick Silva
Jacob Stanley
Gynn Stella
Ryanne Thomas
Stephen Thompson

Sent out the GMail invites. We've still got four left, anyone need 'em?

Also, you guys are free to make posts here you know. So feel free to introduce yourselves, give your ideas for EM, etc.

9/5/04 03:24 pm - charisma - Because I am lazy, you will see this form letter....

Also, checking the EM mail box made me notice - we have six Gmail invites to give out. So if anyone needs Gmail, hit us up for an invite.

Vladamir Fefer
Glenn Charles
Jason Grossb
'Mattloaf'
Matt Rhodes
Natasha Mc Cullagh

Will Posner
Kevin Schwartz
Rick Silva
Jacob Stanley
Gynn Stella
Ryanne Thomas

Thanks to everyone who submitted something! There's still a few days left for you stragglers, so if you've been meaning to get around to that submission - now's the time. We still have absolutely no idea what's going to be on the front page of the print version or anything like that there, so you'll be as surprised as us to find out. Won't that be fun?

Contributers will be given the option to receive an undetermined amount of free print copies (at least one!) - dependent on whether or not you want to give us your address and/or come to one of the events we'll be distributing at and pick them up.

Questions? Comments? Suggestions?

8/29/04 05:30 pm - charisma - Updates 8/29

I made this community today.

So I advertised all over the damn place...

And you too can help spread the word - post it in your journal, let people know we're looking for contributions to the first issue.

I started getting my novel ready for the wonderful world of serialization and posted the first chapter to my novel-working community, greyshades. If anyone wants to give it a read through and error check, I'd appreciate it.

My biggest concern right now is the length. I didn't realize how long the chapters actually are. I'm considering putting only part of the first chapter in the print version of the 'zine, along with a 'Check out the website for the rest of the story!' link at the end. Though I don't want to offend those without web access - is there anyone like that these days? Hm. I don't know. Suggestions?

Layout is being worked on in MS Publisher. I like publisher for the most part, but it can be a kind of glitchy program at times. I need to perhaps set up a front page template so that I don't have to lay out the top header of the front page over and over again.

So who wants to advertise something in the first issue? Help defray my printing costs by buying an ad (or selling one to some business you know) and I love you long time.

Got a new Gmail addy for the mag, 'cause it's better than using my personal email. It's ElectricMandolin@gmail.com - I still have to update the webpages to switch the info over to the new addy.

8/29/04 04:44 pm - charisma - Welcome!

Welcome to the community type place for Electric Mandolin.

I figured maybe people were getting tired of seeing me fill up my personal journal with stuff about the mag... and/or I needed a place to organize all that we're doing with EM.

Electric Mandolin is going to be an irregularly published 'zine with both a web and print format. We're looking at having our first issue together by September 10th. So that means you still have time to get submissions for this issue in. We're also looking for people to become regular features with either a continuing column, comic, or serial fiction.

The submission guidelines can be found on the EM webpage and they're pretty simple. 1. Send us your shit. 2. If it doesn't suck, we'll publish it.

We've got our own email now (separate from my personal email account) - it's ElectricMandolin@gmail.com .

Questions? Comments? Let me know.
